Sand Martin Success!

The first sand martin pair to use the bank we built on Haydn’s Pool have fledged young successfully.  In the last day or so, many more sand martins seem to have joined them and may be prospecting for nest sites.  Are we about to get the bank used by other sand martins to raise their second broods?

Trying out the bank!

Our thanks are due to Vernon Lundy for pushing the idea to construct a sand martin bank.  This is a great example of a successful partnership project, which has been achieved using volunteer labour, a grant from Chester Zoo, stone donated by Brunner Mond (now Tata Chemicals – Europe) and the support of Dave James, Ranger for Anderton Nature Park.
