FoAM Celebrates Completion of Latest Project and its 20th Anniversary

More than 60 people turned out in the sunshine to celebrate the completion of the latest project undertaken by Friends of Anderton and Marbury (FoAM).  The project has created an interpretation panel and all-access viewing platform for visitors to be able to enjoy and learn about the damselflies and dragonflies in the area.

Alan Redley, Chair of the group, thanked chemical company INOVYN and Marbury Ward Councillors, for helping fund the project, supplemented by FoAM’s own funds.  Alan also thanked Jo Sayers of The Mersey Forest team, who helped manage the grant process, and all the volunteers who had been involved.  He paid a particular tribute to Ranger Dave James, without whose help and support the project would not have happened.

The viewing platform had been designed and constructed by volunteers, and FoAM had produced a leaflet to help identify some of the species visitors might see.

The new facility was declared open by Jon Whieldon of INOVYN, who explained that the funding by INOVYN was through the Landfill Communities Fund.  Jon was particularly impressed by the range of skills of the volunteers who had built the platform and produced the interpretation panel and leaflet.  He said, “The funds which INOVYN were able to provide went so much further because of this volunteer input”.

Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said, “It was a wonderful achievement made possible by grants from INOVYN and Ward Councillors Members Budgets and the fantastic work of Alan and team of volunteers and Dave James, one of our brilliant Rangers”.

After opening the new facility, the party returned to Marbury to enjoy a superb buffet and refreshments provided by BeeJou Catering.  As well as celebrating this project, the opportunity was taken to celebrate FoAM’s 20th Anniversary with some of the many local companies and individuals who have helped and supported FoAM over the years.

Photographic Workshops, 12 June & 3rd July

Simon Davies will be leading two Photographic Workshops.

The first, on Wednesday 12th June, is for true beginners, who have a desire to get to grips with the basics of a technical understanding of photography and are seeking to improve the end results. You will need to have a camera which you can adjust ISO/shutter/aperture; a tablet/phone will not be suitable.

The second, on Wednesday 3rd July, is for those who have attended before, or already cope reasonably well with their camera’s basic settings and have used/tried their camera in other than ‘Auto/Program mode’ and want to develop more complex camera skills. It will also be an opportunity to go even further into the art of composition and learning to find the best ways and means to tackle more tricky photographic approaches. You will need to have a camera which you can adjust ISO/shutter/aperture; a tablet/phone will not be suitable.

There will be a charge of £10 for each of the courses.
