Marbury and Witton Flashes Bird Report 2020

Greg Baker has once again compiled a report detailing sightings for 2020 in the Northwich Woodlands (known as Marbury and Witton Flashes by local birders). The report includes sightings and photographs by Greg and other local birdwatchers.

The report is in pdf format only and, within its 80 pages, details sightings of 150 species recorded during 2020, plus a summary of scarcities and tables related to counts of the commoner birds.

You can download a copy of Greg’s report here.

FoAM’s 2020 Photographic Competition – Entries and Results

The pandemic has resulted in cancellation of all FoAM events for the past year apart from our photographic competition, which we’ve been able to hold through electronic submission of entries. A record total of 176 entries were received from 58 photographers and the standards were higher than ever.

Firecrest – One of the winning entries

Our judges, Andy Harmer, Simon Davies and Nick Jones, have once again generously given up their time to review all the entries, so a big thank you to them for making this year’s competition possible.

The entries and results are now available on Google Drive and you can access them by following the instructions and link in this pdf.

FoAM’s Winter 2020/2021 Newsletter

Whilst we are still on lockdown, the Northwich Woodlands remain a wonderful space in which to take exercise. The newsletter includes pictures reflecting the impact of recent weather on the Woodlands and also illustrates the wildlife and plants which can be found during your visit.

As well as the impact of the weather, the Woodlands are under tremendous pressure from an unprecedented number of visitors, particularly at weekends. Please do your bit to help by parking responsibly, keeping to footpaths, not leaving litter and clearing up your dogs’ mess. In this way, you can help make visiting the Woodlands an enjoyable experience for everyone.

You can read about all our news in FoAM’s Winter 202/21 Newsletter.
