FoAM’s Autumn 2013 Newsletter

This issue of our Newsletter contains an interesting perspective from a mobility scooter user on visiting Marbury Country Park. We also report on FoAM’s success in getting £25,000 earmarked within the Saltscape Project. This will enable a way-marked trail through Northwich Woodlands between the Lion Salt Works and Anderton Boat Lift, to show visitors the impact of the salt industry on the landscape and wildlife. The work will be undertaken next year if the second-round bid to The Heritage Lottery Fund for the overall Saltscape Project is successful.

Yo u can also read about our latest project in the Marbury Arboretum. This involves replacement of the wooden plaques (which help visitors identify tree species), installation of an interpretation panel and re-alignment of the entrance path to encourage visitors to explore the Arboretum. This £12,000 project is supported by local chemicals manufacturer INEOS Enterprises through the Landfill Communities Fund, as part of the Mersey Forest.

2014 Photographic Competition

Following the success of our Photographic Competitions in 2008, 2010 and 2012, we have decided to hold a further competition during 2014.  Again, this is for photographs taken in Northwich Woodlands and entries are invited from photographers of all ages and abilities.

You can find the rules by clicking Photographic Competition Rules 2014 . Copies can also be obtained from the Rangers’ Cabin at Marbury. The closing date for entries is 31st December 2014.

Suggestions from the judges:

1. A title is almost essential, particularly in the new category ‘Work, Rest and Play’. It gives some indication of the photographer’s intention.
2. The final print should be borderless, or has a regular border. This leads to a better presentation.
3. The quality of the paper affects the presentation of the photos.
4. Do not worry about submitting a photo because of the type of camera. Some of the best entries have been taken with basic equipment.
5. Composition and capturing the essence of the category entered are the keys to success.

Get your camera out and get snapping. We look forward to your participation.
