How many birds can you identify in Marbury Country Park?

Vernon Lundy will lead a walk through Big Wood starting at 2pm by the Rangers’ Cabin.

Booking is not required and there is no charge, but donations to FoAM would be most welcome. Children should be accompanied by adults.

A check list for the birds you might see in the Northwich Woodlands can be found in the Wildlife category of the website.

Christmas Decorations

More than 30 visitors joined us on Sunday 18th December, a cold winter’s day.  Participants worked enthusiastically to make their own decorations from material collected in the Woodlands.

The splendid decorations created were proudly taken home and the high level of donations showed that everyone enjoyed the event.  This was the first FoAM event to be held under newly opened Marbury Lodge and showed what a wonderful facility it provides.

Marbury Lodge

Wednesday 7th December saw us gather at Marbury for the opening of Marbury Lodge.   We were delighted that Cheshire West and Chester Councillor Stuart Parker, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Recreation, was able to attend the opening celebration.  The three Marbury Ward Councillors (Norman Wright, Malcolm Byram and Don Hammond) were also there.   Representatives of many of the groups who support FoAM also came along.  We were pleased that Andy White of Greenwood Oak, Nantwich (who designed and built the shelter) and Dave Plumbley of Plumbley Environmental Contractors, Winsford (who carried out the groundworks), were also able to be there.

Cutting the Ribbon

To mark the opening, Alan Redley (Chair of FoAM) and Frances Findlay (FoAM Secretary) cut the ribbon.

On behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Councillor Parker (pictured here with Alan and Greenspace Team Leader Richard Snow) thanked FoAM and its volunteers for undertaking and completing the project to build Marbury Lodge, which he said would be a wonderful asset for all Park users.

When the opening ceremony had been completed, all those present enjoyed a magnificent finger buffet and refreshments provided by our volunteers and Marbury Lodge was declared open for all Park visitors to use.
